Bicentennial Scholars

Bicentennial Scholars

The University of Virginia was founded on the Jeffersonian ideal that an educated citizenry is necessary for America to advance its democracy.

In order to move ever closer to achieving that original purpose, UVA is one of only two public universities in the nation that meets 100% of undergraduate financial need, accepting students solely on the basis of merit.

The Bicentennial Scholars Fund allows the College of Arts & Sciences to close the gap between tuition costs and any student’s ability to pay, making studying here achievable for any admitted student, regardless of resources. In this way, we can continue to attract a more diverse student body, which will continue to propel Arts & Sciences forward.
