Tim Ingrassia '86
By Lorenzo Perez
1986 Echols Scholar graduate of the College, Tim Ingrassia returned to Grounds last month to deliver the keynote address at the 65th Anniversary Celebration of the Echols Scholars Program. He and his wife, Stephanie, are among the most generous supporters of the Echols Scholars Program, which he credits with having had a profound impact on his life.
The Ingrassias’ gift to the Echols Scholars Program in 2010 represents the largest donor gift to the honors program. The Ingrassia Family Echols Scholar Research Fund provides annual research stipends to Echols Scholars students. Eleven Echols Scholars received research funding this past year.
“I think the Echols Scholars Program matters more than ever because we're coming into an age where breadth and understanding how to learn across disciplines is going to be more important than expertise,” Ingrassia said March 20 at the Echols Scholars anniversary celebration. “Within a discipline, expertise will be replaced, but thinking will never be replaced, and breadth will never be replaced.”
The Northern Virginia native joined Goldman Sachs after graduating and is now co-chairman of Global Mergers and Acquisitions in the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs. Tim has served on the College Foundation Board of Trustees, the Alumni Association’s Board of Managers, and the Jefferson Scholars Foundation Board.
